In 2021, the core products of China’s coal mining machinery industry will experience three reductions and one increase

“This piece of land is about 120 acres, and you can harvest all the rice in 3 days with a harvester. If you harvest it too mature, the harvester will drop the rice when it touches it, causing more damage.” Recently, at the edge of a rice field in Wushigang Village, Hongqi Village Committee, Luoyuan Town, Sihui City, He Weisheng, the general manager of Heyuan Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and a provincial-level “soil expert” in agricultural machinery use, introduced while inspecting the maturity of the rice.

Last year, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs selected a group of “soil experts” from outstanding farmers who played a demonstrative and leading role in promoting high-quality and efficient transformation and upgrading of agricultural mechanization, targeting long-term roots in rural areas and serving the front line of agricultural machinery use. Two people from our city were selected, and He Weisheng was one of them.

He Weisheng, born in the 1980s, graduated from Guangzhou University with a major in mechanical engineering and has a deep affection for agriculture. “There are very few young people willing to stay in the countryside. With such a large arable land area, they can only rely on machinery. Using machinery saves time and effort, and the most obvious thing is to reduce costs, which is very helpful for agricultural production.”

The company where He Weisheng works has integrated over 2500 acres of land through land transfer in Luoyuan Town, Jianggu Town, and other places in Sihui, mainly for rice cultivation. This year, more than 1100 acres of early rice have been planted, and it has now entered the harvesting period.

Before harvesting, He Weisheng had already driven out the harvester for inspection and maintenance. The plots without early rice cultivation are being cleared with a grass crusher to prepare for late planting and sowing in advance; He used drones to fertilize and spray pesticides on the land where pumpkins were planted.

“We have achieved full mechanization of farming,” He Weisheng said. The machines used in the field include raking machines, transplanting machines, harvesters, and drones for flying defense. In the factory, there are also drying machines, rice mills, and other equipment. The daily maintenance and upkeep of these machinery is led by He Weisheng.

Due to differences in plot shape, terrain, etc., purchased agricultural machinery, especially rake machines, need to be adjusted according to actual conditions during operation. The most modified one is the rake blade of the rake machine. For some plots, it may not be long enough, and for others, the rake may not be smooth enough. If the feedback to the manufacturer is not resolved, He Weisheng will design the dimensions and draw the drawings himself, and find the factory to produce the mold for manufacturing. “They are all small components that can be replaced according to the actual situation.”

During the labor process, He Weisheng took the lead in promoting agricultural machinery operation techniques to more farmers. He often drove agricultural machinery to the fields and taught farmers how to operate and maintain them while cultivating. Next to the rice fields in Wushigang Village, there is a nearly 30 acre sword flower plantation. Under his promotion, he has used a modified transplanting machine to plant sword flower seedlings, dried sword flowers with a dryer, and used drones for daily spraying and management, greatly reducing production costs.

According to statistics, as of now, He Weisheng has taught more than 70 farmers in various towns and villages of Sihui how to operate and maintain various types of agricultural machinery such as raking machines, transplanting machines, drones, etc. He has made positive contributions to the promotion of agricultural machinery and the safety production of agricultural machinery in Sihui and Zhaoqing.

During the early rice planting this year, South China Agricultural University and Zhaoqing Agricultural Machinery Technology Promotion Station also went to Jianggu Town in Sihui to demonstrate and promote rice dry direct seeding technology. He Weisheng studied and consulted carefully, and closely monitored the yield of the plot. “The yield of rice fields planted with high-speed rice transplanters is similar. We plan to use dry seeders on our dry land during late planting, and then use drones for management, weed control, and spraying, which can save the process of transplanting rice.”

Su Shaofang, the person in charge of the Agricultural Mechanization Management Department of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Zhaoqing City, introduced that with the deepening of new rural construction in various parts of the city, the speed of land transfer has accelerated, and land is gradually moving towards large-scale operation. Professional services need to be provided by agricultural machinery service organizations with certain strength, and “soil experts” have played an important role. It is reported that this year, six people from our city have been selected as “soil experts” in the first line of provincial agricultural machinery use selection.
